To keep bugs away from outdoor plants, put a
clove of garlic in the soil in the pot.
For those new, small trees you have planted in
your yard, mulch with grass clippings - they are
much less acidic than regular mulch.
To ripen melons in your garden quicker, place them
on top of tin cans.

Questions to ask befor hiring a contractor....Part 2
6. May I have a list of references?
The contractor should be able to give you names and number
of at least three clients for which he has completed projects
similar to yours. Call them, ask how long ago the project was
completed, and how pleased they are with the job.
2. Can I visit projects you have in progress?
Driving by a project being done by the contractor will
give you an idea of how he manages the job site, and
how the project looks as it progresses.
3. What types of insurance do you carry?
Contractors shoule have personal liability, workers' compensation,
and property damage insurance. Ask to see the insurance certificates,
and make sure they are up to date.
4. Ask for a written contract.
This is both for your protection, and for the contractors. It should
spell out the who, what, where, when and approximate cost of the project.
5. What else should the contract include?
An estimated start and completion date
The contractor's obligation to obtain all permits
How change orders will be handled - as these could
affect the cost and timing of the project
What other things the contractor will or will not do -
such as site clean-up.
Covering the bases ahead of time in the planning stages of
a project will go a long way to ensure that the project
goes smoothly from start to finish.
